Industrial Demolition

Henry Ford Health System
14-Story Steel Structure
Demolition and Implosion

On January 19, 1997, North American Dismantling Corporation imploded a 160,000 square foot 14 story steel structure in downtown Detroit. The building owned by Henry Ford Health Systems was originally built for the Howard Johnson Motor Lodge Company and later was converted as a sleep depravation clinic for the Health System.

Included in the scope of work for this project was the demolition of a 65,000 square foot cast in place concrete parking structure and an 8,000 square foot theatre.  The structure, located at the corner of Third Street and West Grand Blvd, was imploded at exactly 10:00 AM and all streets and sidewalks were operational within 2 hours of the denotation

Careful planning and execution resulted in the absolute minimum inconvenience to the neighboring businesses and community.
