Owner: General Motors

Project Details

GMT 400 Body Shop: Fort Wayne, IN - General Motors contracted North American Dismantling through its construction managers, National Industrial Services, Inc. to complete the demolition of approximately 225,000 sf of existing body shop and salvaging $800,000.00 worth of equipment, which had been previously sold in negotiated sales.

North American Dismantling was responsible for all mechanical and electrical disconnects, environmental cleaning and rigging, loading and scheduling transportation of the salvaged equipment. Although General Motors had scheduled this project for a five-month period, North American Dismantling completed its work in fifteen calendar days without any additional cost to the owner.

This fast tracked schedule allowed the owner to accelerate its schedule for the installation of its new facilities. Also included in North American Dismantling’s scope of work was the installation of approximately 2,500-foot of plywood and visqueen wall around the perimeter of the work area and the backfilling and concrete replacement in pit areas generated by the demolition activities.

Obviously, this project was completed way ahead of the proposed schedule with limited change orders and without interference to plant production.

GMT 400 Body Shop: Janesville, WI - General Motors contracted North American Dismantling through its construction managers, National Industrial Services, Inc. to complete the demolition of approximately 272,000 sf of existing body shop and salvaging $ 600,000.00 worth of equipment that had been previously sold in negotiated sales.

This project was the second of its kind completed by North American Dismantling for NISI and GM in a year and a half period, the first being the demolition of the 400 GMT Body Shop in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Again, North American Dismantling was responsible for all mechanical and electrical disconnects, environmental cleaning and rigging, loading and scheduling transportation of the salvaged equipment.

Although General Motors had scheduled this project for a four-week period, North American Dismantling completed its work in fifteen calendar days without any additional cost to the owner. This fast tracked schedule allowed the owner to accelerate its schedule for the installation of its new facilities. Also included in North American Dismantling’s scope of work was the installation of 1000 sf of plywood and visqueen wall around the perimeter of the work area and the backfilling and concrete replacement in pit areas generated by the demolition activities.

This project was completed ahead of the proposed schedule with limited change orders and without interference to plant production.

GMT 400 Body Shop: Arlington, TX - In a third of kind project, General Motors contracted North American Dismantling through its construction managers, National Industrial Services, Inc. to complete the demolition of approximately 4,000,000 sf of existing body shop and salvaging $800,000 worth of equipment that had been previously sold in negotiated sales.

Again, NADC was responsible for all mechanical and electrical disconnects, environmental cleaning and rigging, loading and scheduling transportation of the salvaged equipment.

Although General Motors had scheduled this project for a four-week period, NADC completed its work in fifteen calendar days without any additional cost to the owner. This fast tracked schedule allowed the owner to accelerate its schedule for the installation of its new facilities.

Also included in North American Dismantling's scope-of-work was the backfilling and concrete replacement in the pit areas created as a result of the demolition activities. As with the previous two projects, this project was completed ahead of the proposed schedule with limited change orders and without interference to plant production.

Assembly Plants Body Shops: Lake Orion and Detroit Hamtramck, MI - This project consisted of the change over of approximately 200,000 square feet of Body Shop at General Motors Corporation’s Lake Orion and Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant respectively. North American Dismantling was contracted by MIG/Alberici to complete the selective demolition portion of the Body Shop renovation where as MIG/Alberici completed the due care removal and salvage of the equipment designated for reuse.

Because of the rigorous scheduling required on all projects of this nature (24 hours per day seven days and week) North American Dismantling worked strict conjunction with salvage operations preformed by MIG/Alberici.

Under the original contract it was deemed all removed materials would be separated and loaded by separate recycling contractor. When it was determined that the recycling contractor could not maintain the necessary scheduling, General Motors hired North American Dismantling to furnish the necessary equipment and transportation to complete this portion of the project and to perform additional major clean up around the exterior of the plant. This project was completed a week ahead of the proposed schedule
